Fanning the Flames of Her Passion

Once upon a time, just about a full score years ago, a little girl went up to her mother and said, "I want to make a caike (sic)".

Really? said her mum. So off they went to Coles supermarket in their suburb of Forrestfield, Western Australia, to get a box of Betty Crocker cake mix.

So easy. Add an egg and water (cannot remember if it called for oil) and voila! Aimee had made her first cake.

A week or so later, this growing beauty, who for the life of her could not keep her room clean but was delightful in every other way, decided she wanted to make another "caike".

Well, mum did not mind buying another box of Betty Crocker but somehow sensed that this impulse to bake would actually lead to bigger and more delectable degustation delights.

So, she told Aimee that if she really wanted to bake, she would have to learn - and do it - from scratch and by hand.

The very first caike that Aimee made was a Frangipani cake and it turned out perfectly.

..... Tune in tomorrow for the sequel... but if you are looking for a first-rate caterer in Perth, look no further than Aimee....
